Yung Bae’s “BAE 5” Tour Loopable Visuals

For Yung Bae’s “BAE 5” album debut and subsequent tour, I was responsible for creating tour assets that communicated his vision of future-funk and 80s-90s anime

A natural fit was to recreate the iconic Rose Puddle scene from the cult classic anime Cowboy Bebop in 3D.

This became easily loopable and reusable alongside other artist’s submissions to tour visuals.

Due to limitations of the current development environment at the time, utilizing physics simulations via OpenVDB in Redshift was not an option- therefore, I was able to turn to HoudiniFX to create a network that would subdivide and displace geometry from a modeled puddle at the vertex level.

This meant we were able to create a believable rain effect on the puddle and export as an alembic to render within Redshift inside of Maya. After a few tweaks with exports in Nuke, I was able to create a VHS style 3D recreation of the iconic scene, which was subsequently used in shows across the tour.
